Surreal Taiwan
Three seems to be the magic number for me. On this third trip to Taiwan, everything fell into place for me. I was able to go back to cities that had inspired me and look deeper and capture that depth.
It's a very interesting place for me. The old sits right next to the new in a way that makes neither of them seem out of place — whether it's buildings or people. Though the cities are changing rapidly, you don't get the feeling that the past is being lost. Culture and history are valued deeply.
This series came from wandering without much of a plan and noticing small things — a round traffic mirror reflecting its interestingly painted surroundings, calendar pages blowing in the wind, a temple standing quietly in its place perfectly mirroring a busy harbor. Small moments like these are what gave Taiwan its surreal feeling for me — familiar one second and completely strange the next.
